About Magic Millions

Welcome to Australia's world renowned Magic Millions Thoroughbred Auction Sales.

Horse racing and thoroughbred sales go hand in hand at Magic Millions. Horse racing is all about winning and Magic Millions Sales proudly claims its share of legends cementing Magic Millions reputation as the place to buy world quality thoroughbreds. Such success reflects the Company's relentless quest for excellence in all of the Magic Millions thoroughbred auctions wherever they may be held.

In January every year the glamorous Gold Coast is the venue for the Magic Millions Yearling Sales and ten days of Carnival and society events surrounding the Magic Millions raceday. The $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic is the highlight - with only graduates of the Magic Millions Sales eligible to compete in the $4 million plus, world first raceday. The Magic Millions Sales and raceday has established its reputation on the international scene, and has fast become a "must be there" event worldwide.

Success on the racetrack comes to those who plan for it. It's not something that can be taken for granted or expected. Everyone loves winning and the innovative Australian thoroughbred sales company Magic Millions are proud of their recent success. And rightly so.

For the last few seasons combined Magic Millions have had the pleasure of selling more Group One winners and more high class racehorses than others in the thoroughbred sales field.

The high class product available at Magic Millions' auctions around the country - from the Gold Coast to Adelaide and Launceston to Perth - is the reason for this great run of success. And with a winning formula of selecting those yearlings who look destined for success, set in place at Magic Millions, buyers at next year's auctions have plenty to look forward to.

Magic Millions prides itself on providing a quality product at a value cost. Unlike other auctions, you aren't usually asked to part with millions of dollars for a yearling - often it’s significantly less.

Everyone loves a win. Everyone strives for a Group One. And everyone dreams of a Golden Slipper. If you too are dreaming of winning the world's richest juvenile race you better make sure you're at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale.

Seven of the last ten winners of the Golden Slipper are Magic Millions purchases. Phelan Ready (2009), Sebring (2008), Stratum (2005), Dance Hero (2004), Polar Success (2003), Ha Ha (2001) and Belle du Jour (2000) were all knocked down to their owners on the Gold Coast. The 2002 winner Calaway Gal, was a homebred, and the 2007 and 2006 winners were sold by another sales company.

David Chester, Managing Director Magic Millions, says his company works tirelessly to assemble the best possible catalogues for each of their sales – whether it be on the Gold Coast in January, Perth in February or Adelaide in March – three of the country’s top sales.

“While a lot of sales concentrate purely on pedigrees, Magic Millions look for the right balance – we don’t just want a horse with a sexy pedigree page – we want one that’s athletic and one which we feel will prove their worth as a racehorse,” Chester comments.

“This strategy adopted by Magic Millions is obviously working the way we wanted it to. For three of the past four seasons we’ve topped the sales company list for Group One winners and stakes winners,” he added.

Buyers on the lookout for a quick return on their investment should look no further than Magic Millions.

Often the winner of the Magic Millions feature 2YO Classic race, will go on to win feature Group One races throughout their two, three and four-year-old racing seasons. Dance Hero is the perfect example of the horse Magic Millions prides itself on presenting in their outstanding catalogues. A precocious and athletic horse who became Australia’s Champion 2 & 3YO.

“Many buyers continually tell us they can buy with confidence at our sales,” Chester said. “And when you cast your eyes over the results of the past couple of seasons you can see why they can be so confident.”

Those intending to buy at future sales conducted by Magic Millions will also be able to exhibit similar lines on confidence.

“We have no intentions of resting and becoming complacent,” Chester added. “We plan to continue to further boost our sales – so they are bigger and better and most importantly being more successful for buyers by producing more stakes winners, more Group One winners and more champions.”

Buyers of yearlings with Magic Millions can now qualify their youngster to be a part of a $4 million (plus) annual series of races around the country. The entire Magic Millions raceday programme on the Gold Coast is open only to eligible MM graduates. There's also races in Adelaide, Toowoomba, Perth, Tasmania and Wyong.

Who wouldn’t want to have their own Dance Hero, Private Steer, Mahogany, Belle du Jour, Subzero, General Nediym, Defier, Lovely Jubly, Regimental Gal, Mummify, Dash for Cash, Assertive Lad or Ha Ha?

In recent years the Magic Millions has been the sounding board for the careers of many great horses such as Sebring, Heavenly Glow, Divine Madonna, Princess Coup, Sirmione, Scenic Blast, Black Piranha, Gilded Venom, Rebel Raider, Shoot Out, Once Were Wild, Theseo, Melito, All American, Shocking, Rocket Man and many others.

"The horses from the Magic Millions have been very good to me. I look for athletic horses first and foremost, and the bloodstock selectors at Magic Millions always pick precocious types. Australian racing loves precocious racehorses and you can find plenty of them at this sale. On top of that, we seem to always buy outstanding horses under the sale average, with intelligent heads which makes it a great place to buy horses for our concerns." - leading Australian trainer, Gai Waterhouse.

The first sale in 1986 saw a fairly moderate catalogue of 220 yearlings go under the hammer. Out of that first sale came four starters in the 1987 Golden Slipper - Snippets, Mother Duck, Prince Anton and Boasting. The first sale was a staggering success, not only because the average of $30,000 was well above expectations, but because top racehorses emerged at an extraordinary rate from this and subsequent Magic Millions Sales.

The Magic Millions Sales and Races have spread with such rapidity that they're now being held in some of Australia's most beautiful locations from the tropical atmosphere of Australia’s Gold Coast, to the beauty of Adelaide, Perth, Tasmania and to the unique delights of Penang, Malaysia, there is really something for everyone.

Magic Millions has offices on the Gold Coast as well as in Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth, and representation in New Zealand - for further information or to contact us, click here.
