About Magic Millions

Welcome to Australia's world renowned Magic Millions Thoroughbred Auction Sales.

Horse Racing and Thoroughbred Sales go hand in hand at Magic Millions. At Magic Millions, we believe that our commitment to the industry is your key to success. Horse racing is all about winning and Magic Millions Sales proudly claims it's share of legends cementing Magic Millions reputation as the place to buy world quality thoroughbreds. Such success reflects the Company's relentless quest for excellence in all of the Magic Millions thoroughbred auctions wherever they may be held.

In the second week of January every year the glamorous Gold Coast is the venue for the Magic Millions Yearling Sales and ten days of Carnival and society events surrounding the Magic Millions raceday. Two One Million dollar races are the highlight of the raceday, with only graduates of the Magic Millions Sales eligible to compete. The Magic Millions Sales and raceday has established its reputation on the international scene, and has fast become a "must be there" event worldwide.

In recent years the Magic Millions has been the sounding board for the careers of many great horses such as Sebring (Champion 2yo Colt of 2007/08; STC Golden Slipper S. G1, AJC Sires’ Produce S. G1), Heavenly Glow (Champion 3yo Filly of 2007/08; AJC Australian Oaks G1, STC Arrowfield Stud S. G1), Divine Madonna (MRC Toorak H. G1, VRC Emirates S. G1, VRC Myer S. G1), Princess Coup (Kelt Capital S. G1), Sarrera (BTC Doomben Cup G1, AJC Queen Elizabeth S. G1), Sirmione (VRC Australian Cup G1, VRC Mackinnon S. G1) and many others.

"The horses from the Magic Millions have been very good to me. I look for athletic horses first and foremost, and the bloodstock selectors at Magic Millions always pick precocious types. Australian racing loves precocoius racehorses and you can find plenty of them at this sale. On top of that, we seem to always buy outstanding horses under the sale average, with intelligent heads which makes it a great place to buy horses for our concerns." - leading Australian trainer, Gai Waterhouse.

Magic Millions is an innovative bloodstock auction house where graduates are the only horses eligible to compete in closed races worth over $5million. At least one yearling from a Magic Millions catalogue each year is guaranteed to win a $1 million race, or perhaps two.

The advent of the shuttle stallions has led to a globalisation of thoroughbred breeding and racing, unheard of a decade or so ago. For instance, at least 30 sires which had quality yearlings on offer in Kentucky or England, Ireland or France this year all played a major role in the success of the 2007 Magic Millions, making the sale a truly international one.

"Magic Millions is my happy hunting ground. The sale is on at the right time and at the right location. I am able to combine my business with a family holiday and it is a fun place to be. I can find, and have done so, some incredible value at the Magic Millions. On top of all that, I estimate that I have something around 90 percent winners from the yearlings I have purchased there over the years, so it's little wonder I keep coming back for more." - Rob McAnulty, leading NZ bloodstock agent.

The first sale in 1986 saw a fairly moderate catalogue of 220 yearlings go under the hammer. Out of that first sale came four starters in the 1987 Golden Slipper - Snippets, Mother Duck, Prince Anton and Boasting. The first sale was a staggering success, not only because the average of $30,000 was well above expectations, but because top racehorses emerged at an extraordinary rate from this and subsequent Magic Millions Sales. Champion Australian 3YO Mahogany, Melbourne Cup winner Subzero, as well as Derby and Group winners too numerous to mention. This record is second to none in comparison with other bloodstock sales around the world.

After 22 years the Magic Millions Sales are today reaping spectacular results and winning world-wide acclaim. The spectacular growth of Magic Millions in the past few years has seen turnover surge from $20 million to a staggering $300 million. The days of going to a yearling sale and picking up a 'spec' horse of inferior breeding and doubtful conformation are long gone. Buyers these days know they have to go for a quality product that oozes an impeccable pedigree, has perfect conformation and looks, and can run for a million dollars.

The Magic Millions Sales and Races have spread with such rapidity that they're now being held in awe in some of Australia's most beautiful locations like from the tropical atmosphere of Australia’s Gold coast, to the beauty of Adelaide, Perth, Tasmania and to the unique delights of Penang, Malaysia, there is really something for everyone.

Magic Millions has offices on the Gold Coast, Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth, and representation in New Zealand - for further information or to contact us, click here.
