Fast Future All Class In Launceston Cup

Quality stayer Fast Future could head to the Adelaide Cup after he edged out a pair of locals to win today’s $225,000 Group Three Launceston Cup (2400m) at Mowbray.

Prepared at Flemington by Russell Cameron, Fast Future enjoyed a run throughout and then overcame late difficulties to claim a deserved big race success.

A son of former champion European three-year-old Generous, Fast Future flew home down the outside of the track to beat White Yard by a neck.

Local outsider and former Tasmanian Derby winner Geegees Blackflash was another head back in third place.

Top Melbourne senior rider Jamie Mott came down to Launceston today for the one ride and he walked away with the track’s biggest prize.

“That was a fantastic win,” Mott said.

“We had a great run in transit but then pretty much got put sideways at the 400 metre mark.”

“I thought his chances were over but to his credit he dug deep in the straight and was able to get up.”

Winning trainer Russell Cameron was not surprisingly all smiles in the winner’s stall and suggested a crack at the Adelaide Cup could be on the cards.

“He’s been a good old horse, he’s had a few injury problems and this is pretty rewarding,” Cameron said.

“It’s a great result, these owners have been very patient.”

“He didn’t have much luck at Hobart,” Cameron said. “He got shuffled back and ran into a dead end.”

“He’s been a good old horse, whether he heads to Adelaide Cup now we’ll just wait and see.”

“He’s paid his way. We’re not going to be retiring him just yet, he’s still racing well and we’re having a lot of fun with him still.”

Fast Future was purchased from the draft of Glenmorgan Farm for $34,000 at the 2004 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale at Morphettville.

The evergreen eight-year-old gelding has now earned over $490,000 thanks to his eight wins and 13 placings from 52 starts.

The 2011 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale will be held on March 14 and 15.
