Unless your horse is purchased at a public auction, the insurer will usually require either a Declaration of Health or a Veterinary Certificate. These documents are required by the insurer for first time insurance cover and also for renewals. The information supplied will assist the insurer to determine the general health and wellbeing of the horse, and to ascertain the risk.

When a Veterinary Certificate is required, a veterinarian will complete the required document following a physical inspection of the horse and specific to the type of insurance cover required.
