Murtajill Colt Tops Qtis Sale Opener

A colt by former star Gold Coast graduate Murtajill topped today’s first session of the Magic Millions QTIS Yearling Sale.

Leading Deagon based trainer Pat Duff went to $135,000 to secure the colt from the draft of Glenlogan Park.

He was one of two youngsters to sell for prices over $100,000 during a positive opening to the popular Gold Coast based auction.

A regular buyer at most Magic Millions Yearling Sales on the Gold Coast, Duff was delighted to have snared the well regarded youngster – catalogued as lot 72.

“I trained his dam Gunalda and she was a quality mare who had good ability but was without luck in a number of good races.”

“She ran second to Dantelah in the Sir Douglas Wadley (Stakes) and she wasn’t beaten far when she ran third in the Winter Stakes at group level,” Duff added.

“Until now I hadn’t really been keen to buy any of her progeny, but this colt is an outstanding individual – clearly her best to date.”

“I’ve followed the colt since he was a foal at Glenlogan and I was really keen to buy him.”

Duff said the colt is the first by former record breaking weanling Murtajill he’d purchased.

The other six figure price ticket today came for a colt by Jet Spur from the draft of Highgrove Stud for $110,000.

The much anticipated colt was knocked down to the bid of Hoss Heinrich and the youngster will join the Magic Millions Classic winning stables of his wife Gillian.

All up today over $3.4 million was given for 152 lots at an impressive average prie of $22,671.

The average price was up over 14 per cent on the same session last year. The clearance rate today was 74 per cent – up from 70 per cent twelve months ago.

“It’s been a pretty good day’s selling,” Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox said.

“To see the average, gross and clearance all rise is very positive and he hope this continues tomorrow.”

“It’s a catalogue of very nice horses and we have some top prospects to go under the hammer during the second session,” Cox added.

The second session will be conducted from 11am (Qld time) tomorrow.
