Quality Tasmanian galloper Dream Pedlar provided next year's Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale with a boost when he beat a quality field in today's $50,000 Gold Nugget (1600m) at Ballarat.

The Troy Blacker trained son of West Quest boosted his earnings to over $297,000 when he got home in a driving finish to beat Sylvan O'Reilly.

Winning rider Danny Nikolic was keen to keep the ride on Dream Pedlar after the pair combined for an unlucky last start sixth at Caulfield.

"I was very impressed with his run the other day," Nikolic commented. "He was beaten for speed when they sprinted at the 600 and then over the last furlong he didn't get a lot of galloping room but I thought he hit the line full of gusto."

"I wanted to be a bit closer (today) if I could be. He's still pretty fresh. His ideal distance is between the 2000 and 2400 and that is when he comes into his own."

"I hit a flat spot at the 500 and I was just going and then I dropped the whip near the 300 - I wouldn't have been happy if I got beaten in a photo."

Dream Pedlar is a stakes winner of the Tasmanian Stakes and is from the One Thousand Guineas winner Unamah.

A half brother to Dream Pedlar is being prepared for the 2011 Tasmanian Yearling Sale by the Whishaw family's Armidale Stud on behalf his syndicate of owners.

"He's a nice colt," Robyn Whishaw said. "He's a late foal and it's a late maturing style family - but he's correct and he's a quality individual."

"Dream Pedlar was reared on the property as well and this yearling is in a similar mould - a nice horse who will look good come sales time," she added.

The colt is by Danehill stallion Ladoni - the sire of star mare Lady Lynette and 16 other stakes gallopers.

The 2011 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale will be held at the Inveresk Showgrounds in Launceston on February 22.
