Star Tasmanian mare Lady Lynette sent her earnings soaring past $600,000 when she scored a brilliant win in Saturday's Group Three Tesio Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley.
The outstanding daughter of Ladoni made it back to back wins in the feature mares event when she cruised home to beat Perth mare Delta Gee and Sydneysider Music Review.
The mare was back in the care of father-son training combination David and Scott Brunton after a stint under the care of Caulfield horseman Robert Smerdon.
The win was the biggest for Brunton Jnr since he joined up with his father as a co-trainer.
"I'll take this any day of the week," Scott Brunton said. "This is my Cox Plate and we've won it. Sensational, just a big thrill."
"It's an unbelievable thrill. I'm very happy to do it for mum (part owner)."
"I've been badgering the hell out of dad because I thought I went pretty good at the (training) caper that we should have a go."
"Then I got her at the stables and I thought it was the worst move I ever made."Brunton thanked another father-son training team for playing their part in the win.
"I must thanks Bevan and Richard Laming - they've been a great help with all of our horses over here at the moment."
"Richard is one of my best mates and it's just fantastic," he added.
There were some concerns for Brunton in the lead up to the $150,000 feature event,
"She's been walking around in the yard all day head down, I thought I've done something wrong here, something's not right but she's got to the money!"Connections with resist the temptation of the Group One Myer Classic, a race she was second to Typhoon Tracy last year.
"She had been looking for further Nick Hall's been telling us she's looking for further, still looking for further. Her Grand Final is the Matriarch."
That feature event for mares will be run over 2000 metres at Flemington on November 6.
"She give me a good kick along last year and won this race. It's a thrill to win a race on Cox Plate day."
"I thought she might have lost a bit on her last prep, but today she showed she's back."
"Full credit to the Brunton family, they've freshened her up, kept the condition on her and she's come bounced back at a mile today."
The mare has been an incredible money spinner considering she cost just $13,000 at the 2006 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale.
With 10 wins and 11 placings and 26 cheques from 31 starts the mare has won a staggering $602,633.
A full brother to Lady Lynette will go under the hammer at the 2011 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale at Launceston.
The yearling is the latest from the top producing Coronation Day mare Queen's Own and he will be one of the standouts of a quality draft from Armidale Stud..
A winner at 1200 metres, Queen's Own is a full sister to the Group One Thousand Guineas placegetter and proven producer Regal Sashay.
She is also a half sister to Echarpe - the twice winning and stakes race fourth placed mare who's the dam of classy Tasmanian galloper Forbidden Quest.
