Northern Meteor Colt Stars as Average Soars 71% on Gold Coast

A colt by ill fated sire sensation Northern Meteor starred as records tumbled across the board at the Magic Millions Gold Coast 2YOs in Training Sale today.

The Northern Meteor colt, offered by Raheen Stud, topped the sale when he was knocked down for $300,000 to the bid of leading Sydney based buyer David Raphael.

“He’s a lovely colt,” Raphael said. “He moved well and has a page and physical frame that will be very attractive if he shows everyone the results on the track.”

“His breeze and action speak speaks for itself and they don’t make many more 19% stakes winning stallions any more such as Northern Meteor.”

“I think this breeze up sale will continue to grow and more breeders will aim at a sale like this with nice horses as their first point of sale,” Raphael added.

The sale topper is the fifth foal of the unraced but top producing Testa Rossa mare Seduction Line. Her four named foal to date include three winners – stakes winner Snippets Land and stakes performer Canny Franco.

The second top seller of the day was Nolen Racing’s Foxwedge-Heigl colt who sold for $270,000 to the bid of Nicholas Moore.

“I purchased the colt for one of my big supporters Mr Lai, who races many successful horses, and this guy will head to John Sargent in Sydney,” Moore said.

“He’s a really lovely colt. We loved him. He’s a great type and he looks like he will make into a really nice two-year-old.”

“He’s by a stallion who I’m sure will prove a success and his stock have been in good demand at the sales around Australia this year,” Moore added.

With over $8.4 million traded on 134 lots sold the average price rounded out at over $63,000 – soaring a remarkable 71% on last year’s 2YOs in Training Sale.

Today’s gross was up over 41% on last year’s sale with an extra $2.4 million returned to vendors compared to 12 months ago. The clearance rate of 81% was up from last year’s industry leading 79% figure.

“A truly spectacular result by every measure,” Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox said.

“The vendors are to be congratulated on preparing and presenting an exceptional bunch of two-year-olds and vendors across the board were well rewarded.”

“The efforts of Magic Millions’ own Paul Beamish should not go unnoticed as he took this sale as his own which was reflected in the quality of the production pre-sale.”

“A massive buying bench was on hand due to some outstanding work by David Chester and Cassandra Simmonds. The strength of the sale was largely Asian driven with a good representation of domestic buyers.”

“From a Magic Millions perspective it was tremendously rewarding to be a part of one of the most genuine two-year-old sales ever conducted with a clearance rate of over 80 per cent,” he added.

Singapore led the way for international buyers with 25 lots purchased for a total spend of over $1.6 million. All up nine countries and four states of Australia were represented among buyers.
