Quality Mares star on day one of Patinack Dispersal

Star mare Believe’n’succeed became the 11th million dollar breeding prospect sold by Magic Millions this year when she topped the first day of the Patinack Farm Complete Dispersal on the Gold Coast today.

One of two lots offered by vendors other than Patinack Farm, Believe’n’succeed was purchased by Coolmore’s Tom Magnier for $1.1 million to top the day’s proceedings.

Presented by Attunga Stud, as agent for the Jynnbrook Birchall Dispersal, Believe’n’succeed was a Group Three winning juvenile for Mark Kavanagh before retiring to stud where she made an immediate impact with her first foal being Bounding, a Group One winner in New Zealand. She was presented in foal to champion sire Street Cry.

Magnier, who today purchased six lots for $2.46 million, was delighted to secure the prized offering.

“She is a lovely mare and we will take her home and decide who she will go to,” Magnier said.

“We have horses back at the farm like Camelot and Pierro, horses like that, so we will her back and we will decide where he will go from there.”

“It’s been a great sale. We have got a nice selection of mares and we are very happy about that,” he added.

A large crowd and diverse buying bench helped the day round with with strong statistics – over $22.48 million traded on 191 lots sold at an average price of $117,733 and 100 per cent clearance.

The top price of the Patinack Farm draft was for Group One winner Bel Mer. The daughter of Bel Esprit wasn’t on the grounds as she is due to foal any day. She was available for inspection at Patinack’s nearby Queensland farm at Canungra.

Strong bidding from at least four different parties saw her value round at $850,000 with the final and successful bid coming from Andrew Perryman represented exciting new South Australian outfit Goldin Farms.

The home of former champion Hong Kong galloper Akeed Mofeed, Goldin Farms was the day’s second leading buyer with an outlay of $2,537,500 on six lots.

Gerry Harvey’s Baramul Stud was the day’s leading buyer with 12 purchases at a spend of $3.84 million. His purchases included Allez Wonder ($750,000) and No Evidence Needed and Serious Speed who both sold for $720,000.

John Singleton secured two well bred lots including Dreams and Wishes who cost $700,000 late in the day.

The top price for the race fillies and mares section earlier in the day was $610,000 for Peron – purchased by Segenhoe Thoroughbreds.

Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox was pleased with the way today’s lots were received by the market.

“In the last five months Magic Millions has sold about $92.5 million worth of breeding stock,” Cox noted.

“Having taken just short of $70 million at the National Sale and then to turn around and sell another $22.5 million for an out of season sale speaks volumes for the Australian bloodstock industry.”

“Competition was wide and varied from the start of the sale until the last lot this evening.”

“We’re now looking forward to the final breeze up session tomorrow morning in preparation for Tuesday’s Gold Coast Horses in Training Sale,” Cox said.

“Already some 96 two-year-olds have breezed in sub-11 second times and we anticipate a lot of interest in the two-year-old sale. Recent graduates of the sale have been racing with tremendous success with 32 individual winners already from last year’s auction.”

“We also look forward to the opportunities that the remainder of the Patinack Farm Complete Dispersal presents buyers with a session of yearlings to commence tomorrow at 1pm,” Cox summed up.
