Successful Perth Sale Comes To A Close

The 2010 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale came to a close at Belmont today with healthy increases again across the board.

Astute buyers seeking great value for money were out in force at the sale complex today competing for a lovely line up of prospective gallopers.

All up during the day over $836,000 was traded on 115 yearlings at an average price of $7,274. The clearance rate was a healthy 75 per cent.

The average price was up over 40 per cent on last year’s figure and the clearance rate soared from 60 to 75 per cent.

The top price of the day was $34,000 twice – once for a Hartley’s Spirit colt to Brent Larsson and the other for a colt by Untouchable to KL Chong.

Local buyers were strong today, but were equally matched by buyers from Singapore and Malaysia.

Magic Millions’ Singapore Manager Wade Burridge bought four yearlings today and was impressed with the stock on offer.

“Over the four sessions Singapore has purchased 26 yearlings..”

“Judging by the horses we’ve bought for Singapore I have no doubt we’ll all be back bigger and stronger next year.”

The day’s leading buyer was champion Malaysian trainer KL Chong – signing for seven yearlings at a spend of $86,000. All up this week he snapped up 17 lots for $603,000.

Magic Millions Managing Director David Chester said the four sessions of the Perth Yearling Sale had proven successful.

“This sale is one of the real highlights on the Australian thoroughbred calendar,” Chester said. “Those who’ve never been should make sure they book in for the 2011 sale.”

“The line up of yearlings on offer over the four sessions this year was first class and let’s not forget recent graduates of the sale include the champion stablemates Scenic Blast and Scenic Shot.”

Chester said the focus of Magic Millions and thoroughbred followers would now focus on upcoming auctions at Launceston, Adelaide and the Gold Coast.

“We have catalogues out for all of those three sales and there are some lovely prospects to go under the hammer.”
