2018 Carbine Club Luncheon
Start: 9 January @ 12:00 pm
End: 4:00 pm
The Carbine Club is a luncheon club that was first formed in Melbourne in 1961 and takes its name from the great Australian race horse Carbine who won the 1890 Melbourne Cup. The Carbine Club colours of black, red and white are the same as those carried by Carbine. Since the Club’s foundation in Victoria, sister clubs have been established under the same name in every Australian state and territory, in New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Vanuatu and London. The objectives of the Carbine Club are to promote and foster the development of junior sport in Queensland by providing awards and grants to promising and worthy sporting individuals in Queensland in varied sporting endeavours.
Mark Read will be guest speaker at the 2018 Carbine Club Luncheon, where he will share stories from his long career as one of Australia’s foremost bookmakers and legends of racing, including his move to Darwin in 1996 where he launched as the first corporate bookmaker in Australia.
Mark will be joined by this year’s Melbourne Cup winning Jockey, Corey Brown. Corey is a dual Melbourne Cup winner having ridden Shocking to victory in 2009! Ever the travelling man, Corey has ridden in Sydney, Melbourne, Singapore, Hong Kong and France, and also completed the Kokoda Trail this year with Stephen Baster and Hugh Bowman.
The Carbine Club Luncheon features a two-course meal and afternoon cheese platters.
