Segenhoe Stud

Nestled within the illustrious Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, the world-famous Segenhoe Stud (circa1908) emerges as a pinnacle of prestige and excellence in the realm of Thoroughbred and stud Angus cattle breeding. Proudly presented to the market by Donovan + Co in collaboration with Sotheby’s Sydney and Magic Millions, this esteemed property stands as a testament to the epitome of agricultural luxury and functionality, fused seamlessly within its 568.83 hectares.

From the moment you step foot onto Segenhoe, you’re greeted by an ambiance of grandeur and sophistication. This sprawling estate boasts an enviable stretch of frontage along the pristine Hunter River, a natural wonder that adds tranquility and breathtaking scenery to the landscape.

The success of any stud farm hinges not solely on its sales achievements, but predominantly on its performance on the racetrack. Without question, Segenhoe Stud is established as Australia’s foremost farm for breeding the world’s best racehorses. Over the past decade, Segenhoe has produced an impressive tally of 13 Group 1 champions. Among them; Eagle Way, Oohood, Ellsberg, Mizzy, Manuel and Sky Field, and including stallions standing at stud Merchant Navy and Kings Legacy. More recently, horses like King Colorado, In Secret, Pride of Jenni, Amelia’s Jewel, and Joliestar have continued to uphold the Group 1 legacy, with the frequency of such victories notably on the rise, especially in recent years. In 2023, Segenhoe enjoyed a remarkable Spring carnival, setting a racing season record with an astounding 13 individual stakes winners.

Segenhoe continues to excel in the thoroughbred auction ring, emerging as the leading vendor at the recent Magic Millions yearling sales by grossing $16,665,000 (with an average of $555,500) and maintaining an average of over $550,000 for the past two years. The farm achieved a notable milestone by selling a record 7 million-dollar yearlings in January. This achievement is a testament to the quality of horses that will represent the farm in the coming years. Already boasting two stakes-winning two-year-olds in Highness and High Octane this season, Segenhoe Stud anticipates that this famous legacy will continue to thrive.

The bedrock of success however, lies within the farm itself. The pristine Hunter River traverses the entire length of Segenhoe, alluvial river flats boasting nearly 30 feet of topsoil, complemented by undulating hills, all graced by diverse paddocks featuring various pastures and soil types. This offers the ability to tailor specific paddocks to individual horses and their requirements. All horse paddocks are double fenced, with mature trees providing shelter from all weather conditions, further supplemented by tree-covered shelter sheds for larger paddocks. Ultimate water security with an extensive water license enables irrigation to virtually all horse paddocks, while bitumen roads run throughout the property. All the while the much-revered Aberdeen Angus Stud herd harmoniously exist and enrich the pastures for the blue-blood thoroughbreds.

As you explore the boundless potential that Segenhoe offers, prepare to embark on a journey where luxury, functionality, and success converge harmoniously. This is more than a property; it’s a legacy in the making, waiting for the next visionary to inscribe their mark upon its storied grounds.
