Superlatives were flying thick and fast at Rosehill today when the outstanding four-year-old mare More Joyous crushed her rivals in the Group Two Theo Marks Stakes.
The daughter of More Than Ready had a three and a quarter length margin over Rothesay at the post, despite being eased down dramatically by jockey Corey Brown.
Brown, one of the country’s leading riders, filled in for the suspended Nash Rawiller today and was glowing in his post race comments.
“By far the best horse I have ever ridden, I am telling you, I do not care what she beat today I have never ridden a horse to the line that I can remember that would get near her,” Brown said.
“She was going better after the line than what she was before.”
“I was just saying to the strapper when I hopped off that any jockey who takes credit for riding a horse like that is a fool.”
“Honestly I just sat there, laid her out in front, gave her a squeeze at about the 250m and it was pretty much all over,” he said.
“She is explosive and I think she would be even better if she has something to chase,” said Brown.
Winning breeder and owner John Singleton was not surprisingly all smiles in the mounting yard following the most emphatic of victories.
“It’s unbelievable,” Singleton beamed. “Gai said she would take control of the race and nothing would tough her.”
“It was a great win and she’s a freak.”
“Life’s easy really – you buy More Than Ready’s and you them to Gai and they send you the cheques,” Singleton added.
Waterhouse said More Joyous had improved incredibly from her previous season when she captured the Group One Flight Stakes.
“She is a very, very good horse,” Waterhouse commented. “And she’ll be winning the Epsom.”
Following the Epsom connections are planning a Melbourne raid where the weight-for-age champion of Australasia, the Cox Plate, will be the main mission.
More Joyous is one of the best bred mares anywhere.
She is by leading Southern Halo sire More Than Ready and from the Australian Oaks winning Sunday Silence mare Sunday Joy.
Sunday Joy is a half sister to the outstanding mare Tuesday Joy, a four time Group One winner, being a daughter of the Queensland Oaks winner Joie Denise.
The latest yearling produced by Sunday Joy, a cracking colt by Australia’s champion sire Redoute’s Choice will go under the hammer at January’s 2011 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
The colt, who has a physique to match his stunning pedigree, will highlight a quality draft from Strawberry Hill Stud.
The colt, sure to be one of the most sought after sire prospects of the year, is now a half brother to the hottest mare in the Southern Hemisphere.
Another yearling from the family, a bay colt by Encosta de Lago from Joie, is also in the Strawberry Hill Stud draft for January’s pin-up sale.
Joie is a stakes performed half sister to Sunday Joy and Tuesday Joy.
The 2010 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale will be held from January 12 to 21.
