| A colt by Tassort led the way on Day Two of the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale when realising $120,000 at the Morphettville auction on Friday afternoon. |
| Offered through the Sullivan Bloodstock draft, the black or brown colt was purchased by prominent bloodstock agent Suman Hedge in partnership with Trilogy Racing. The colt is from the four time winning Elusive Quality mare Ominous Quality, a daughter of the former smart group winner Noircir. The purchased capped another successful Adelaide Yearling Sale for Hedge. “The Adelaide Yearling Sale for me, it’s my favourite sale of the year,” Hedge said. “I come back every year.” “I love everything about this sale. Apart from the fact that the sale provides great value – we’ve had a lot of success buying horses like Victoria Quay and Galaxy Patch.” “I love the city in general. It’s the people, they’re very warm and accommodating and kind and you want to come back every year.” The $120,000 Tassort colt was one of six lots on the day to sell for $100,000 or more with other highlights including a Grunt close relation to Veight ($115,000), a Dalasan half sister to Saturday’s Coolmore Classic runner up Arctic Glamour ($110,000) and a well related Brazen Beau colt ($110,000). The leading vendor for the sale by gross was Willow Park Stud ($780,000 for 15 sold), just $2,000 ahead of Mill Park Stud who led the averages ($59,846 for 13 sold). Across the two days of selling, the smaller catalogue returned a gross of over $10.5 million with an average price of $39,325 and an always improving clearance rate of 76 per cent. “The clearance rate has now climbed to be over 75 per cent which is pleasing,” Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said. “Our vendors were very motivated to sell.” “When a good horse walked through the ring, whether it was yesterday or today, there was extremely strong interest and that gives a lot of confidence to those who bring the right sort of horse here you will get paid just as well, if not better, than anywhere.” “There’s a craving for quality and some accountability has to be made on the leading breeders in the state to support the sale and give it real impetus that the market has to come to Adelaide – to support the local sale with quality horses.” “This is the coal face of our industry. There’s a lack on confidence at the lower end and the reality is, it’s tough out there – whether it’s fuel prices, interest rates.” “When you’ve got the right horse – with pedigree, type and it vets out well – there is an outstanding demand for those horses. If you can get the right product and get it here to the Adelaide Yearling Sale you get paid very, very well.” “Unfortunately at the lower end, when you’re off the pace, it becomes a little tricky to get those horses sold. We are pleased that the vendors were very motivated to meet the market and it’s been a solid two sale days.” “We will continue to work with our vendors to get a good quality of horse here. When you look through the results and speak to a number of the vendors, who I have spoken to over the last two days, many are delighted with the results and pleasantly surprised with the depth and support on many horses,” Bowditch added. “We are in Adelaide for the long haul. We are not going anywhere and we are looking forward to next year’s sales and many years into the future.” To view the results of the sale or to make an offer on a passed in lot click here.
