Solid Start to Gold Coast March Yearling Sale

Solid Start to Gold Coast March Yearling Sale

A lovely filly by Queensland Guineas winner Rothesay topped Day One of the Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale on Monday when she sold for $150,000.
Leading local trainer Bryan Guy was delighted to secure the chestnut filly, offered as Lot 28 by Glenlogan Park.
Guy trained the filly’s dam Bareena during an eight win career capped by victory in two listed events in South East Queensland.
“She’s a beautiful filly,” Guy said. “Two of her foals are both smaller types and they’re both winners.”
“This filly is bigger and stronger, much like the dam (Bareena) and she is a really nice filly.”
“She’s a great walker and she has everything I look for in a nice filly,” Guy added.
Four other yearlings sold for $100,000 – two colts from the last crop of champion Queensland sire Sequalo, a colt by Real Saga and a filly by Show a Heart.
Three of the top five sellers today were offered by Glenlogan Park, the other two by Lyndhurst Stud Farm.
Figures rose slightly across the board on Day One of the sale when compared to last year’s record breaking sale. Over $4.1 million was given for 142 lots sold at an average price of $29,391 and the clearance sat at 78 per cent.
“We’ve sold five horses for $100,000 or more which is as many as we sold for the whole sale year,” Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox reported.
“That in itself is a great indicator of the sale. Having said that the market is a little inconsistent where a number of horses have been bought exceptionally well.”
“For those that have done their homework the opportunities from today will continue tomorrow,” Cox added.
The leading sire of the sale ranked by average (for five or more lots sold) is Sequalo ($48,545 for 11 sold) ahead of Real Saga ($45,650 for 10 sold), Show a Heart ($40,875 for 8 sold) and Golden Archer ($40,313 for 8 sold).
Local trainer Toby Edmonds is the leading buyer on spend after Day One with $255,500 invested on four lots, while Glenlogan Park is the leading vendor for two or more lots sold with an average of $46,594.
