Wylie Hall highlighted a Group One double for Magic Millions graduates at Turffontein on one of South Africa’s feature racecards overnight.
A beautifully bred son of Redoute’s Choice, Wylie Hall emerged as one of the country’s top staying prospects when he proved too good in the R1.5 million SA Derby (2450m).
Positioned in fifth place for much of the race, Wylie Hall raced up to the leaders in the straight before making a final furlong charge to hit the front and win by a widening half length margin.
Wylie Hall responded perfectly to the urgings of champion local rider “MJ” Odendaal to beat stablemate Gothic. Both are trained by Weiho Marwing.
A graduate of Newhaven Park, Wylie Hall was purchased for $205,000 from the 2011 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale by Andy Williams’ World Wide Bloodstock.
Williams, purchaser of many Group One winners including champion sprinter Rocket Man, purchased the SA Derby winner for owner Michael Leaf.
Wylie Hall is now the winner of three of his six starts – he placed in the other three – and looks to have an extremely bright future for his connections.
The exciting colt is from the good producing Ideal Planet mare Beauty Belle, a three time Sydney winners and five time victor in all.
Successful at trips from 1300 to 1800 metres, Beauty Belle is also the dam of the one time Sydney galloper and Pago Pago Stakes winner Genius and Evil.
Genius and Evil was sold to Hong Kong, renamed Absolute Champion and he lived up to his name with a number of feature race wins and being crowned Hong Kong’s Champion Sprinter of 2007.
Beauty Belle is a sister to Roanoke Boy and half sister to Stalusk and Voltage – the latter being the dam of Anamato, Drum and Port Watch.
The family also includes Aussie stakes winners Dealer Principal, Grand Armee, Dissolved and Mearas.
Wylie Hall is therefore closely related to Group One Australasian Oaks winner Anamato and Group Three Spring Stakes winner Mearas who are also by his sire Redoute’s Choice.
Dealer Principal’s dam, Volte is set to go under the hammer at the upcoming Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale at Lot 1022.
A member of a quality packed draft from Coolmore Stud, Volte is being offered after being served last spring by two time Cox Plate winner So You Think.
