Bliss Street Brilliant At Ascot

Promising Perth juvenile Bliss Street will chase a valuable black type victory after breaking her maiden status with a brilliant win at Ascot this afternoon.

A member of the powerful Danny Morton stable, Bliss Street sat off the speed before coming with a stunning burst in the straight to reel in the leaders and then race away.

At the post Bliss Street ($2.80-$3.10-$2.90 fav) held a widening length and a half margin over Shady Bet ($21-$26), while Highlight Reel ($14-$16) was another half length back in third place.

Bliss Street was sent out the on course favourite after an excellent last start third in the listed Gimcrack Stakes.

She was paid up for the recent Karrakatta Plate, but missed a run after being installed the second emergency.

Connections had plenty to smile about today when the exciting filly raced home an easy winner.

“Will (Pike, winning rider) got one off and there was good speed and she had a nice run with cover and proved too good,” Morton commented.

“We’ll look at the Sires’ now provided she comes through this run ok – it certainly looks a nice race for her.”

“I think there’s a good bit of upside,” Morton summed up.

The result was a perfect one for Magic Millions graduates – all three placegetters being sold by the company as yearlings.

Bliss Street was purchased by Danny Morton for $100,000 from the draft of Yarraman Park Stud at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

The runner-up Shady Bet, a youngster by Bletchley Park, was purchased by connections for $42,500 from last year’s Perth Yearling Sale.

Rounding out the MM trifecta was the $1,500 Perth Thoroughbred Sale bargain buy Highlight Reel – a youngster by exciting first season sire Flying Pegasus.

Bliss Street is the second winner, from two to race, for the stakes winning mare Jade Diva.

A daughter of Jade Robbery, Jade Diva won the listed Silver Jubilee Stakes at Moonee Valley as a two-year-old.

Futher back hers is the family of Group One winners including On the House, Rebecca Sharp, Kidnapped and Fontanella Borghese.

Bliss Street is the 721st individual winner for former Golden Slipper winner and star sire Flying Spur.

Flying Spur was recently represented by his 81st stakes winner and Bliss Street could, judging by the ease of today’s victory, could well be his 82nd in a matter of weeks.
