Bugsy Tops Successful Darwin Sale

Former Melbourne galloper Bugsy topped yesterday’s Magic Millions Select Tried Horse Sale at the Darwin Turf Club.

The second last lot of the 16 offerings at the auction, Bugsy was purchased by leading local trainer Chris Pollard, the most active buyer of the afternoon.

Bugsy, a good looking grey gelding by Dash for Cash, had placed in three of his nine Victorian starts before being recruited for the sale by the Darwin Turf Club.

His price of $23,000 was the highest for the auction in which all of the 16 lots offered sold at a healthy average price of over $12,600. The sale aggregate was over $200,000.

Other horses to attract strong interest yesterday included Compacts ($18,000), Unlucky ($17,500) and Mandalong Sun ($16,500).

Chris Pollard’s stable looks set to be boosted by the addition of seven lots from yesterday. Other buyers included local trainers Jason Manning and David Jupp.

The sale, held annually after the Carbine Club Lunch each year, was subject to the auctioneering of long time Magic Millions director and auctioneer David Chester.

“This is the first sale Magic Millions has been involved in the selling process and we’re honoured to have formed a close relationship with the Darwin Turf Club,” Chester said.

“There was a great crowd on hand following the lunch and there was spirited bidding throughout the auction.”

“Congratulations and thanks must go to the Darwin Turf Club for their efforts in sourcing horses and organising such a successful sale.”

“Magic Millions are hoping the relationship between the two parties continues to strengthen in the years ahead and we look forward to the $10,000 bonus voucher being up for grabs at next year’s Darwin Cup race meeting.”

The Darwin Carnival continues tomorrow with the Palmerston Sprint race meeting, before all attention turns to the Carlton Mid Darwin Cup on Monday.
