Quality filly Demanding Miss will head to the paddock for a well deserved spell after a comprehensive win in the Spring Carnival Package on Sale Handicap (1400m) at Randwick today.
The Commands filly bounced back after a horror run in the recent Group One TJ Smith at her home track of Eagle Farm to win the Sydney juvenile in great fashion.
Demanding Miss has always been held in high regard by leading Brisbane trainer Barry Baldwin and she made a booming start to her career when in October when won at Eagle Farm.
She ran second in the listed Calaway Gal Stakes, fourth in the listed Bruce McLachlan Stakes and third in the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic at her next three runs – in each race she chased home the star filly Military Rose.
“She’s had a tough time,” Baldwin said. “She was in Brisbane and then came down to Sydney, went back home and then is back down here again.”
“Last time out in the TJ Smith she had a bad run and she pulled up a bit stressed and had to barrier trial.”
“So she’s done a pretty good job,” he added.
Baldwin said the twice stakes placed and Brisbane and Sydney winning filly would head to paddock for a well deserved spell.
The filly, earlier sold at the 2008 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale by Attunga Stud, was purchased as a yearling at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale for $50,000 from the draft of Widden Stud.
Demanding Miss has already won her owner, former country jockey David Woodhouse, $263,300.
Demanding Miss is the only named foal to date for the three time winning and Brisbane and Sydney placed mare Agony.
A daughter of influential international sire Royal Academy, Demanding Miss is a three quarter sister to stakes winner Portsmouth (Helene Momentum in Hong Kong) and half sister to former outstanding filly Angst.
Other stakes winners in her family include the likes of Melodie Belle, Harmony Boy and Feel the Noise.
Meanwhile, moments later in Adelaide the excellent first season run for Lyndhurst Stud sire Hidden Dragon continued when Obsidian Dragon won the juvenile race at Morphettville Parks.
With Clare Lindop in the saddle, Obsidian Dragon showed plenty of speed and then plenty of fight in the straight to draw clear of Novaspirit and win in great style.
Trainer David Balfour selected and purchased Obsidian Dragon for $23,000 from the Lyndurst draft at the 2008 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale.
She has already earned $68,800 from just a handful of starts and she looks to have a bright future ahead.
