Derby Aspirant Trumps Rivals In Group Three

Exciting three-year-old Trump will be given his chance to qualify for the Group One Queensland Derby after winning today’s Group Three Gunsynd Classic (1600m) at Eagle Farm.

One of the rising talents among three-year-olds in Brisbane, Trump showed great acceleration over the concluding 200 metres to reel in Goldslick and win by a widening long neck margin.

The win was the second in feature races on the day for Group One winning trainer Rob Heathcote following the success of Buffering in a $100,000 sprint earlier in the day.

Heathcote said Trump would head to another feature three-year-old event before a decision is made whether he would tackle the state’s blue riband.

“I thought he was a good thing beaten behind Morning Captain last start and he’ll go on to the Rough Habit Plate next,” Heathcote told AAP.

“He’s a work in progress and I’ve taken him to Rockhampton and Melbourne.”

“I’m sure he’ll get 2000 metres and he’s nominated for the Derby but we’ll see how he goes first over 2000 metres in the Rough Habit Plate,” he added.

Trump, purchased by his original trainer David Payne for $45,000 at the 2010 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, has now won his connections over $190,000.

He has raced on 13 occasions and notched four wins and three minor placings.

From the twice winning Black Minnaloushe mare Queenie, Trump is the first stakes winner for his well performed young sire Written Tycoon.

A graduate himself of the Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Written Tycoon won the Group Two Todman Slipper Trial Stakes before being retired to Eliza Park in Victoria.

He hit the ground running as a sire and was last season’s Champion First Season Sire of Australia and with his oldest progeny just three he already has 26 individual winners.

His other stakes performers include Masthead, Prestigious Miss, Alezan Thunder, Anelene, Gaps in Me Knees, Written Consent and Andre Roo Hoo.

Trump’s dam Queenie, won once ran second at Rosehill, is a half sister to the stakes performer Amarantha.

Queenie’s dam Palace Bound in turn is a half sister to three stakes gallopers including former champion racemare and proven producer Flitter.
