Flying Spur Colt Tops Second Hit Session

A colt by successful sire Flying Spur topped today’s second session of the Magic Millions Gold Coast Horses in Training Sale.

A member of the Kenmore Lodge draft, the colt from Rock on Bye attracted strong interested in the sale ring and after a spirited bidding battle it was Hong Kong based businessan Ting Kong Cheng who was the successful buyer.

The owner of Eliza Park International, Mr Cheng snapped up the highly admired colt for $220,000, edging out Macau based brothers Nicholas and James Moore.

“He’s a colt we really liked,” Mr Cheng said. “He is by a very successful sire and our team thought he was very athletic.”

The youngster, bred at leading Queensland based thoroughbred nursery Rosari Farm, will stay in Australia to race. A decision as to who will train the colt to be made at a late date.

The colt was one of nine individual lots to sell for six figures today but none could surpass the 9.85 second breeze-up Dreamscape colt from yesterday who sold to Hawkes Racing for $310,000.

The second top seller today was Mellum Park’s Henrythenavigator colt from the city winning Street Cry mare Tevez who was purchased by Singapore’s Premier Racing Partnerships for $160,000.

Third on today’s top seller leaderboard came as the very next lot in the ring, Glenlogan Park’s Excellent Art-Thrilladilla colt to Magic Millons as agent for a Hong Kong client at $150,000.

Over the two sessions of the sale over $6.43 million was traded on 150 lots sold at an increased average price of $42,870.

The clearance rate rounded out at 62.2%, a figure expected to rise as more sales are completed over the coming days.

“Among the results are some exceptional individual sales and those vendors should be congratulated,” Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox reported.

“We were very happy with the cross section of the buying bench.”

“The market was very polarised. If you had the right product there was great competition.”

“Obviously we’re very disappointed with the clearance rate, however the average price was up on last year and that is a positive,” Cox summed up.
