Group One Next For Panipique

Panipique earned a crack at the Group One Robert Sangster Stakes with a stylish win in today’s listed Moomba Plate (1100m) at Flemington.

Prepared by master horseman Peter Moody, Panipique doubled her stakes win count when she cruised home to beat That’s Not It by a length and a half.

A well bred three-year-old filly, Panipique appreciated the drop back in the class after finishing a credible ninth when she struck trouble in the Group One Oakleigh Plate. On that occasion she was beaten just 3.2 lengths.

“Her run in the Oakleigh Plate was phenomenal,” Moody said.

“It was just a tragedy that she drew the outside that day,” he added.

“Her second up form is super. She had a victory over the Slipper winner last time around, so she’s in for a good prep.”

“She’ll head to Adelaide now for the Group One for fillies and mares.”

Michael Walker, who rode Panipique to victory this afternoon, looks almost certain to retain the ride on the filly with Moody’s number one rider Luke Nolen set to be riding in Sydney on the same day.

The win was the third in nine starts for Panipique who’s now earned over $172,000.

Five runs earlier she caused a boilover when she cruised home to beat reigning Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily in the Quezette Stakes at Caulfield.

A graduate of the 2009 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Panipique is a daughter of MM flagbearer Testa Rossa.

Her dam, the Spinning World mare Our Quivira, won six races for connections prior to retiring to stud – including two at stakes level.

She won a Group Three Dermody Stakes in Adelaide and a listed Kensington Stakes at Flemington.

Our Quivira is a full sister to Sydney stakes winner Kishkat and half sister to the group performed Eskaw.
