Hareeba Result Boosts Adelaide And Tassie Sales

Next month’s Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale received a stakes winning boost today when Zedi Knight won the listed Hareeba Stakes at Mornington.

A member of the Brendan McCarthy staable, Zedi Knight ($8.50) controlled the race and cruised home in the straight to beat the favourite Launay ($2.50) by a length and a quarter.

Another half length back in third place was the evergreen Mark Young trained sprinter Secret Flyer ($13).

The win in the feature sprint was the first at stakes level, but seventh win overall for the gelding by Zeditave. His cheque today of $60,000 pushing his career earnings past the $300,000 barrier.

“He’s been running terrific races – having no luck with the barriers and just over racing that bit,” McCarthy reported. “Craig (Williams) rode him perfectly.”

“There are a lot of nice races coming up so hopefully he can get a bit of confidence from this and go on with it.”

McCarthy said the gelding could well cross the border and contest a feature race in Adelaide in the coming weeks.

A half sister to Zedi Knight by the exciting young Chatswood Stud based sire Primus will go under the hammer at next month’s Adelaide Yearling Sale.

Catalogued as lot 105, the filly is the latest yearling from the stakes winning, well related and top producing Sealed Bid mare Sly Sandra.

“She’s a most attractive filly,” Magic Millions’ Tim Brown reported. “She has good size and scope and looks a likely type.”

“Her sire Primus can produce a lovely type and this filly is a good example of his stock.”

“Chatswood have a nice draft heading to Adelaide and their half sister to Group One winner Above Deck has the honour of kicking off the sale as Lot 1 on March 15,” Brown summed up.

Runner-up Launay lost no admirers with his eye catching second placing in the feature sprinting stakes event.

His half brother by Pleasant Colony’s Group One winning son Denon will do under the hammer at next week’s Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale.

The colt is the latest yearling from the winning Palace Music mare Eve in Seychelles – a half sister to group winners Storm, Runaway Groom and Regal Sea.

The 2011 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale will be held at the Inveresk Showgrounds in Launceston next Tuesday (February 22).
