Captain Sweet continued his impressive march through the Hong Kong racing grades with a barnstorming win at Sha Tin tonight.
A son of Fastnet Rock, Captain Sweet made it five straight wins when he cruised home to beat a qualiy Class 2 field by three parts of a length.
Prepared by master horseman John Moore, Captain Sweet was a $60,000 purchase by the Hong Kong Jockey Club at the 2009 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
After an eyecatching debut third in June, Captain Sweet has gone on a winning stretch from September through to now with five brilliant wins from as many runs.
John Moore’s son and the stable’s bloodstock manager George Moore said Captain Sweet was the perfect horse to deal with.
“When he came into our stable he was really immature, however after six months he really furnished into a nice strong horse.”
“He has a great temperament and is a push button horse,” Moore added.
“He does everything you ask of him and he has a great turn of foot.”
“We gave him a short break after his last win – just because we don’t want to push our three-year-olds too hard.”
“We will slowly progress further up the ratings and try to clock up as many wins as possible before putting him with the big boy sprinters.”
“The owner (Jack Wong) is a great owner and is extremely pleased with his progression and we have been fortunate to have full rein on the horse in terms ofwhere to enter him.”
Captain Sweet is one of four winners, from four to race, for the winning Lake Coniston mare Strega.
A daughter of the stakes winner Rancho Miss and half sister to stakes gallopers Kimester and Timeless Miss, Strega is now a resident of Michael and Anna Flannery’s Avoca Park Stud in Western Australia.
Her latest yearling, an attractive filly by exciting first season sire Flying Pegasus, will go under the hammer at next month’s Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale as Lot 211.
She is one of 10 yearlings being prepared by the Avoca Park team for the popular Belmont Park based auction.
The 2011 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale will commence on February 9. To view the online catalogue for the sale click here.
