Impressive First Winner For Dr Green

Former top class New Zealand galloper Dr Green notched a career milestone today when he was represented by his first winner as a sire.

Dr Ichi, a juvenile gelding by the sire, looked a smart galloper of the future when he cruised home in a juvenile event at the Gold Coast.

In an all Magic Millions finish to the race, Dr Ichi, with Bradley Wallace aboard, cruised home to beat Vivarea by two lengths, while Outback Fortune was another three lengths back in third place.

Dr Ichi went into the race with good support following an 860 metre trial win at Doomben on January 18.

The milestone winner is trained by Bevan Laming after he purchased the likely type for $32,000 from last year’s Magic Millions QTIS 600 Yearling Sale at the Gold Coast.

Laming trains the gelding from his Jacobs Wells base for his wife Jenny.

Dr Green, the sire of Dr Ichi, was a stakes winner in New Zealand as a two and three-year-old prior to a stint in Hong Kong.

He is a superbly bred son of Fusaichi Pegasus and he stands at Secret Hill Farms in Queensland.

Dr Green is one of four stakes performers produced by the Emancipation Stakes winner Palia.

That makes Dr Green a half sister to Group One winning juvenile Onemorenomore and full brother to stakes placed youngsters Fury and Roussay.

There are two fillies by Dr Green catalogued for April’s Magic Millions QTIS 600 Yearling Sale.
