International Buyers Boost National Yearlings

A diverse international buying bench helped post increases across the board as the second session of the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale was held at the Gold Coast today.

Wrapping up the select component of the sale, a further 15 yearlings were today sold for $100,000 or more, bringing the figure to 30 for the past two days.

A well bred colt by Onemorenomore topped the day’s proceedings when selling to John Thompson for $300,000.

The colt is a half brother to two stakes winning gallopers Thompson knows plenty about, Longport and Run for Wilson.

Longport was sold to Brisbane based trainer Dan Bougoure for $800,000 at last week’s National Broodmare Sale.

The Husson-Sun Classique colt was knocked down for $260,000 and the Stratum-Sarvon filly made $250,000 when offered as part of the Unreserved Reduction from Patinack Farm.

Broadwater Thoroughbreds’ New Approach colt from Vachere was snapped up by Magic Millions, as agent for a New South Wales client, for $175,000.

Sizzling’s buyer John Foote was active again today when buying Mellum Park’s Exceed and Excel colt from Silken Song for $160,000.

The select section of the sale rounded out with a gross of over $12.7 million – up over $5 million on last year’s auction. The average price of almost $40,000 was up over 20 per cent on the 2012 auction.

“It was more of the same from yesterday,” Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox reported.

“The most rewarding part of the sale was the strong participation of buyers, particularly those from abroad.”

“Our team put in a lot of work in attracting buyers to the sale and it was good to see so many participating,” Cox added.

A general session of yearlings will be held from 10am tomorrow before the National Racehorse Sale is held from the same time on Friday.

The racehorse sale currently has 225 lots set to go under the hammer including dozens of proven city winners including numerous stakes performers.
