Kav Takes Lead In Mm Trainers Premiership

Melbourne Cup winning trainer Mark Kavanagh has burst to the front in the Magic Millions Leading Trainer Premiership following a string of winners over the last month.

Kavanagh has notched up 30 wins this season with graduates of Magic Millions sales – three more than his nearest rival.

His tally hit 30 when top class sprinter Here De Angels broke the track record when winning the Group Three Rubiton Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.

Fellow Flemington based trainer David Hayes and Sydney based horseman Gerald Ryan lead the chasing brigade with 27 wins apiece.

Also high up on the latest leaderboard are Bryan Guy (24), Dale Sutton (23), Mark Webb (22) and Perth duo Adam Durrant and David Harrison (both 21).

Meanwhile, Wadham Park trainer Dale Sutton has been enjoying a purple patch of form over recent weeks and he’s hopped Toowoomba’s Mark Webb to lead the table for wins on non metropolitan tracks.

Sutton’s tally of 21 is two more than Webb, while Tasmania’s Graeme McCulloch (16) and Queensland trio Trevor Bailey, Bryan Guy and Jason McLachlan (all 15) are within striking distance.

The winning trainer of both categories will pocket a $2,000 sales voucher for a Magic Millions Yearling Sale in 2011.

The latest premiership details for the three jockey categories will be announced on Friday.
