Catapulted burst to outright favouritism for the Group One The Goodwood with a dominant victory in the Group Three DC McKay Stakes (1100m) at Morphettville yesterday.

A member of the all conquering Mark Kavanagh stable, Catapulted was sent out the favourite and had his supporters cheering when he raced clear in the straight for the easiest of wins.

It was just what the connections of the four-year-old wanted to see in the lead up to South Australia’s premier sprint early next month.

Stable foreman Sam Kavanagh was delighted with the performance and suggested the gelded son of Catbird.

“His work in the lead up to the race had been very good and it was good to see him go out and win like that,” Kavanagh said.

“He has pulled up well so he looks well and truly on track for the Goodwood,” he added.

“There’s still some good improvement in him – I would have thought he was about 80 per cent yesterday.”

At the post Catapulted ($2.40 fav) held a widening two and a half length margin over Solchow ($6), while Augusta Proud ($4.60) was another two and three quarter lengths back in third place.

Catapulted, by the Watson family’s Mill Park in partnership with good friends Bob and Helen Dinham, was purchased by Mark Kavanagh for $90,000 at the 2007 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale.

Kavanagh has had great success with Mill Park graduates from the Adelaide Sale – with stable stars Divine Madonna, Devil Moon and Undoubtedly all fitting the bill.

His latest group winner Catapulted is by Catbird and from the well related and once winning Umatilla mare Siren Miss.

Successful at 1400 metres, Siren Miss is a full sister to the stakes winning juvenile Umatune – the dam of Magic Millions Perth Classic winner Jestatune.

Umatune is also the dam of the Western Australian Guineas placegetter Saxon Palace.

Interestingly Catapulted’s third and fourth dams – Neptune Princess and Lady Freux both won the Group Two SAJC Bloodhorse Breeders’ Stakes at Morphettville.

Catapulted boasts an outstanding record of seven wins from just 11 starts with earnings of over $223,000.

Interestingly when Catapulted debuted in Adelaide as a two-year-old with a win he snuck home to beat Super Satin by a nose.

That’s the Super Satin who recently reached the pinnacle of racing when he beat a crack field to win the Group One Hong Kong Derby at Sha Tin.
