Kav’s Duo Rock Geelong

Leading Flemington trainer Mark Kavanagh unearthed a couple of likely prospects for the upcoming weeks and months at Geelong on Tuesday.

The duo – Rock Culture and Atlantic Jewel – couldn’t have been more impressive as they scored eye catching victories. Both are three-year-old daughters of Fastnet Rock.

Rock Culture was the first leg of the running double, racing away in the home straight to beat Summer Night and Co by a widening four and a half length margin.

The filly, from the Marscay mare Multicultural, was purchased for $160,000 from the Baramul Stud draft at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Rock Culture’s dam, who was lightly raced, is a half sister to the Black Opal Stakes winner Coral Salute.

Atlantic Jewel, who came from back in the field, couldn’t have been more impressive in the following race – beating her rivals by a over a length.

Carrying the familiar navy blue colours of the powerful Coolmore operation, Atlantic Jewel was purchased for $320,000 by leading international agent Demi O’Byrne at last year’s Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

The Vinery Stud graduate is the first named foal for the city winning Zabeel mare Regard – a half sister to Sydney stakes performer Shaan.

Atlantic Jewel’s third dam, the Alzao mare Pass the Peace, was a Group One winner of the Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket.

Kavanagh has had some good success with the progeny of Fastnet Rock including the group performers We’re Gonna Rock and Undeniably.
