Luke’s Luck Flies In Karrakatta

Highly regarded youngster Luke’s Luck emerged as one of Perth’s most exciting gallopers with a stunning win in Saturday’s Group Two $500,000 Karrakatta Plate (1200m) at Ascot.

A juvenile son of Show a Heart, Luke’s Luck produced a whirlwind finish to come from second last on the home turn and scored a widening long neck win in the state’s feature two-year-old contest.

Trainer Trevor Andrews has always held Luke’s Luck in high regard and was delighted he was able to deliver in the half million dollar contest.

“I’m really happy to get him over the line,” Andrews said. “We’ve had a bit of a lean run of late.”

“The horse has always shown a lot of ability. He just gets a bit too far out of his ground all the time and needs a bit of luck.”

“It was a really good ride from Shaun. We always planned to ride him for luck. The runs didn’t come on the inside but he found the line late.”

“The horse has always been looking for more ground. He’s the sort of horse that should be able to go on to the Sires’ and then onwards and upwards from there.”

Luke’s Luck is raced by Mt Hallowell Stud’s Craig Thompson – one of Western Australia’s biggest racehorse owners. Thompson paid $150,000 for the likely prospect from the draft of Rheinwood Pastoral at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

“Craig paid $150,000 for him at the Gold Coast last year,” Andrews said. “He’s out of a Redoute’s Choice mare and he looks a nice Guineas horse in the making.”

“I think I’ve spent three quarters of a million dollars on yearlings for him (Thompson) this year.”

“We’ve bought some really nice colts and we supported the local breeders quite well.”

“You like to see someone like Craig get a return on their money. He’s really good for the game and we need more of them.”

“He deserves the results. He’s had an interstate double today with Hallowell Belle winning in Sydney,” Andrews summed up.

The 16th stakes winner for Brave Warrior’s Caulfield Guineas winning son Show a Heart, Luke’s Luck is from the four time Sydney winner Red Queen.

A daughter of Redoute’s Choice, Red Queen is a half sister to the Edward Manifold Stakes winner and multi-million dollar seller She Will Be Loved.

She is also a half sister to the stakes performers Thorn Dancer and Mya.

Luke’s Luck, who hails from the family of Hong Kong Sprint winner All Thrills Too, is closely related to Show a Heart’s stakes winning siblings Gotta Have Heart and Crossyourheart.

Also in the family are quality gallopers including Dao Dao, Adaline, Soleil Rouge, Polly’s Brother, Silky Red Boxer and Malandrino.

The win of Luke’s Luck continued the great recent run for the Glenlogan Park based Show a Heart – sire of recent Group One winner Woorim.

Like Luke’s Luck, Woorim is another high class galloper who gets back in his races, but produces stunning, sustained bursts of speed to reel in his opposition.
