Magic Millions Appoints New South African Representative

Magic Millions is pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Lafferty as its South African Representative.

Paul is a racehorse trainer based at Summerveld in Kwazulu-Natal with a thriving satellite operation in Port Elizabeth and has been a regular at Magic Millions Sales for many years.

A former professional footballer, Paul switched careers in 1983, working locally with trainers Herman Brown, Ivan Pickering and Pat Lunn, before leaving for an apprenticeship in Los Angeles, California. On his return to South Africa in 1988 Paul took out his own trainers licence in Durban.

In the 1990s Paul embarked on a new career as an on-course television presented at the three Kwazulu-Natal tracks and for the past four years he has co-hosted South Africa’s most popular racing show, Winning Ways. He has become one of the most familiar faces in South African racing as a consequence.

Paul is a regular contributor to racing websites and newspapers and takes an avid interest in racing through the world.

Paul Lafferty now enjoys the backing of some of South African racing’s leading owners and his stable is emerging as a major player.

“My role will include liaising with trainers, owners and bloodstock agents in South Africa and helping to promote Magic Millions and their auctions throughout the country,” Lafferty said.

“Australia is clearly a great market for us.”

Magic Millions horses continue to do very well in South Africa and include the likes of Delago Deluxe, Gimmethegreenlight, Fighting Warrior and Happy Archer.

“On behalf of Magic Millions I welcome Paul on board and am confident he will bring a wealth of racing and business experience to his new role,” Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox said.

“Paul is extremely well respected and highly regarded in South Africa and we’re looking forward to him adding clients to an already strong client base.”
