Magic Moment For Morrison

Queenslanders struck in the opening race on Magic Millions raceday when Anymore stormed to victory in the $100,000 Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort & Spa Magic Millions Plate (1200m) at the Gold Coast.

Under the urgings of star Sydney rider Peter Robl, Anymore raced clear over the concluding stages to beat the David Hayes trained The Yowie by  length and three quarters. Snippets Land was another neck back in third place.

“I thought he was a good place chance,” winning trainer Lacey Morrison said. “He’s got some talent but he’s a bit mad!”

A former jockey, Morrison is now training and she has a small team at Toowoomba. Today was her first metropolitan winner as a trainer. She even spent a period as a cadet steward with Racing Queensland.

Morrison said she was thrilled to get the win for former trainer John Dann, a strong supporter of her stable.

“I used to be his stable rider and John has really supported me and to win this race for him is great,” she added.

A graduate of the Willeen Park draft at the 2012 Magic Millions Gold Coast July Monthly Sale, Anymore was sent out at healthy odds despite two excellent runs from as many starts.

On debut over 850 metres the son of All Bar One ran fourth at the Sunshine Coast before running second at Ipswich in late October.

One of 78 winners for his sire All Bar One, Anymore is one of three winners for the 100 per cent winner producer Royal Insight.

An unraced daughter of Royal Academy, Royal Insight is from the stakes performer Marscay mare Royal Harmony and is a half sister to the Tasmanian Derby placegetter Our Bullbaa.

Anymore’s sire All Bar One was a high class sprinter for local trainer Gillian Heinrich and won nine races, including two as a two-year-old.

He is best remembered by racegoers for his win in the Group Two Sir Byrne Hart Stakes in Brisbane.
