Magic Quinella In South African Group One

Delago Deluxe extended his unbeaten run to four when he thrashed his rivals to win the Group One R500,000 Tsogo Sun Maverick Medallion (1200m) at Scottsville in South Africa tonight.

Trained by master horseman Charles Laird, Delago Deluxe was sent out the favourite after three wins from three starts and he extended his unbeaten run in style.

Despite getting off the track over the concluding stages, Delago Deluxe was able to cruise home under Anton Marcus to win in outstanding fashion.

The result was a great one for trainer Charles Laird and Australian bred performers sold by Magic Millions.

The runner-up Tennessee Strategy completed a dream result for connections – like the winner being trained by Charles Laird for major stable clients Ingrid and Markus Jooste.

A stunning looker and exceptionally bred galloper, Delago Deluxe was one of the most admired lots at the 2010 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Laird had to bid to $550,000 to secure the Baramul Stud bred son of Encosta de Lago.

Delago Deluxe is the first named foal for the three time Brisbane winning Flying Spur mare Succeeding – she a daughter of the former top class race mare and grand producer Staging.

A winner of 10 races and over $1.13 million, Staging is now best known as the dam of group winners Duporth, Excites and Tickets.

Succeeding currently has a yearling filly by Hussonet and weanling filly by More Than Ready and was served late last spring by Encosta de Lago.

The runner-up Tennessee Strategy is a colt by Stratum (ex Tennessee Red by Red Ransom) who was bred by Patinack Farm and sold by them for $130,000 at the same 2010 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
