Magical Plain Does It Again

The form from the recent Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap came to the fore in Brisbane today with Plain Magic and Kryptelon dominating the listed Nudgee Handicap (1200m) at Eagle Farm.

Raced by Racetree’s Kevin Dixon, Plain Magic made it three straight wins when she held out her rivals and brought to an end the unbeaten run of Chakvedatze.

Trainer Kelly Schweida was thrilled with the win and is now eyeing Winter Carnival features with his classy Magic Albert mare.

“She’s always shown us something,” Schweida reported. “From day one she’s showed us ability.”

“I said to the owner this goes good, but she’s very plain and that is how she got her name.”

“Her last three wins have been good. She’s been racing in good quality races.”

Schweida described today’s win as “very gutsy” and said a race like the Group One Winter Stakes would be her aim in around four months time.

He said Plain Magic would run in two weeks time in a similar event before contesting the Silk Stocking.

By Magic Albert, who was third in the 2001 Magic Millions 2YO Classic behind Excellerator, Plain Magic has now won Dixon an ever increasing $341,950.

A half sister to the Melbourne winner Mistry, Plain Magic is from the twice Sydney winner Glow Misty for Me.

A daughter of Forest Glow, Glow Misty for Me is from the Magic Night Stakes placed Papal Power mare Misty Power.

Further back it is the family of Group Two Western Australian Guineas winner River Mist as well as Group One winning sprinter Notoire and Magic Millions 3YO Trophy winner Tempest Tost.

Meanwhile, Winter Carnival feature juvenile races will be on the agenda for promising youngster More More More following his outstanding debut win earlier on the card.

A $125,000 purchase from last January’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, More More More is trained by Alan Bailey and Bailey is excited about the future.

“He’s a nice horse and a big strong looking fella,” Bailey told AAP.

“He’ll make a winter carnival horse for sure. He’s well bred being out of the Denise’s Joy family and I don’t think he’ll have any trouble running a mile.”

The youngster is by More The Ready and is set to be spelled with the upcoming carnival in mind.
