No Nay Never Colt Tops Successful 2YO Sale

No Nay Never Colt Tops Successful 2YO Sale

An outstanding colt by exciting international sire No Nay Never proved the star of the show when he sold for $525,000 to top the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast 2YOs in Training Sale.

Presented at the auction by Benalla based Nolen Racing, the colt attracted intense interest before Gold Coast based trainer Michael Costa and Hong Kong bloodstock agent George Moore locked horns in a sale ring duel.

When the hammer fell it was Costa’s bid, for Ardross Bloodstock, of $525,000 that proved the winning one.

“We thought he was one of the standouts of the sale and he was our number one pick,” Costa said.

“We had to give a little bit extra for him but we were determined to get him.”

“He has got a really good attitude which will stand him in good stead if he does head over to Hong Kong as well. His breeze up was one of the talks of the sale and he ticked a lot of boxes,” Costa added.

For vendor Tal Nolen the result capped a hugely successful sale in which he sold nine youngsters for a gross of $1.23 million.

“He was a lovely horse,” Nolen said. “The best breeze up horses we’ve ever had.”

“He has heaps of improvement and he will grow into a lovely horse – a Group One horse even!”

“I bought him here in June (for $90,000). It’s a massive gamble and you have got to have something like this (result) to keep going.”

The second top seller of the day was the Dissident-Demanding Queen colt offered by O’Gorman Racing who sold to Barbara Moore for $320,000.

The colt, catalogued as Lot 235, was the fastest breeze up performer in the lead up to the sale. The youngster sizzled in his 200 metre breeze at Warwick Farm clocking 10.18 seconds.

“He looks a very exciting prospect,” Moore said. “He breezed very well and very fast.”

“He is a great type – a nice strong two-year-old type.”

“At this stage he will be staying in Australia and we will see how he goes before we decide what the future holds,” she added.

Other big sellers on the day included Kenmore Lodge’s I Am Invincible-Sorel Point colt ($300,000 to Krit Chittaseni), Nolen Racing’s Zoustar-Cardinal Court colt ($250,000 to Jason Tam/Nicholas Moore), Baystone Farm’s Choisir-Tahnee Tango colt ($220,000 to Kendrick Racing), Kenmore Lodge’s Foxwedge-Elay Princess colt ($220,000 to Michael Clements/Bevan Smith Bloodstock), JCS Thoroughbreds’ Hinchinbrook-Emerald Downs colt ($220,000 to Dennis Yip/Pinhook Bloodstock) and Wishbone Farm’s Deep Field-Thunder Belle colt ($200,000 to Ricardo Le Grange/Rodney Too).

Across the two day sale over $11.4 million was traded on 182 lots sold at an impressive average price of $63,609. The clearance rate sits at a lofty 80 per cent.

“It was another solid sale today,” Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said. “We are so excited to have such a high clearance rate – 80 per cent is fantastic for a breeze up style auction.”

“There were some huge results for vendors who came here with well presented horses. The pinhooking success from a number of our sales between January and June has been remarkable.”

“We couldn’t be more happier for Tal Nolen who has been selling here at this sale for many years. It’s our vendors who do the hard work, getting to the sales, finding the horses and educating them properly – the buyers come here with confidence.”

“I really must thank the vendors and buyers for their support – we had such a large buying bench from around Australia and so many from abroad.”

“David Chester and the Magic Millions team have put a lot of effort into the sale and getting clients here. It’s a very rewarding result for Magic Millions.”
