Number One Is Number One In Millions Opener

Sydneysiders John O’Shea and Jim Cassidy struck in the first race on Magic Millions’ $4.3 million raceday when Number One Gun scored a dashing win in the BMW M5 Magic Millions Maiden Plate (1200m) at the Gold Coast.

On the speed throughout, Number One Gun was able to streak clear in the straight and establish a winning break.

Despite getting a little tired near the line he still held a three quarter length win over the Brisbane galloper Viking Heart.

Bolero Dancer, a runner for Clarry Conners, was another length and a quarter back in third place – ahead of the unlucky favourite Light Warrior who lost its chance when bucking shortly after the start.

Number One Gun is a galloper with good quality according to connections and showed that on debut recently when second at Canterbury.

“He can really gallop,” O’Shea said of the winner. “I think he’s going to be a much better horse when we let him relax.”

“He’s got a lovely action and there’s none better than JA Cassidy to let them roll like that.”

Cassidy was impressed with the win.

“He came back under me and relaxed – he did that for about two and a half furlongs and he had that good kick in the straight,” Cassidy said.

Number One Gun is turning out a great money spinner for connections following his purchase from the draft of Yarraman Park Stud for just $25,000 at the 2010 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

O’Shea will be hoping his winning run on the day continues with his runners to come including BMW Magic Millions 2YO Classic contender Hoss Amor.

Number One Gun is one of 219 winners for former top class galloper and now leading sire Mossman.

He is from the Unbridled’s Song mare Graphite Lass, a winner at two and stakes placed in the Merson Cooper Stakes.

Further back it is the same family as international group winners Daarik, Crimson Quest, Al Shemali and Tungsten Strike.
