Poletti’s Perth Sale Star Does It Again

Luckgray has been sent to the paddock with the riches of the eastern states in mind following his comprehensive win in Saturday’s Group One Kingston Town Classic (1800m) at Ascot.

A $46,000 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale purchase for trainer Gino Poletti, Luckygray proved much too good for a crack field confirmed himself as the state’s leading middle distance performer.

The win made up for his last start second placing when coming from well back and very wide in the Railway.

Luckygray raced handy in Saturday’s feature, burst to the front at the top of the straight and went to the line for an easy length and a quarter victory over Railway Stakes winner Mr Moet.

Perth Yearling Sale graduate God Has Spoken was another half length back in third place for the Neville Parnham stable.

“He is a star,” Poletti told reporters immediately after the win from the Ascot mounting yard.

“I knew he would be tough to beat as he had trained on so well and, in my heart I was confident he could run the trip right out.”

“Coming back to weight-for-age was a big help and Shaun (O’Donnell) rode him perfectly.”

“He’ll be in the paddock tomorrow (Sunday) morning and we will give him two or three weeks before deciding where we go to from here.”

“We will be considering all races in both Melbourne and Sydney – we have some unfinished business over there.”

Sold at the 2009 Perth Yearling Sale by Riverslea Farm, Luckygray has now earned over $1.78 million with 12 wins from just 18 lifetime starts.

Luckygray capped a big weekend for the progeny of his sire, Glenlogan Park’s Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Bradbury’s Luck.

He also had provincial winners in Queensland and New South Wales on Saturday before siring a double at Kranji in Singapore on Sunday.

Luckygray is the only runner to date for his dam, the four time winning Mukaddamah mare Damah Lady – a two time two-year-old winner.

Damah Lady, who won up to 1400 metres, is a half sister to the Todman Slipper Trial and Canonbury Stakes winner Diego Garcia – now in Macau and still winning under the name of My Eternal Flame.
