Queensland Bred Blooms in Hong Kong Group One

Queensland Bred Blooms in Hong Kong Group One

One time Victorian based galloper Seasons Bloom scored the biggest win of his career when he beat a crack field in Sunday’s Group One Stewards Cup (1600m) at Sha Tin in Hong Kong.

Unlucky in the Hong Kong International Mile in December, when he flew home from an impossible position, the gelding proved his class with a strong win under Joao Moreira.

Prepared by Danny Shum for Paul and Kathy Lo, Seasons Bloom sent his lifetime earnings to HK$19 million (approx A$3 million) with his half length success.

Seasons Bloom started his racing career in Victoria where he raced twice under the name Le Capitaine – for a fifth at Caulfield with Peter Moody and a win at Pakenham when trained by Brendan McCarthy.

Bred in Queensland by the Nolan family of Raheen Stud, Seasons Bloom is the first Group One winner for his sire the ill fated Captain Sonador.

A Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase, Captain Sonador won an Epsom Handicap before retiring to Raheen Stud where he produced three crops – Seasons Bloom a member of his first.

Today wasn’t the first milestone achieved by Seasons Bloom. He was the first son or daughter of Captain Sonador ever sold at auction when he was offered by Raheen.

From the unraced Not a Single Doubt mare Pyramisa’s Lass, Seasons Bloom was sold by Raheen Stud for $26,000 to Ampulla Lodge at the 2013 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale on the Gold Coast.

The team from Ampulla Lodge raced him in Victoria and scored the win before he was sold in a deal brokered by Magic Millions’ great friend Paul Beamish.
