Records Tumble At National Yearling Sale

The select component of the 2010 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale concluded at the Gold Coast this evening with record figures across the board.

Strong selling and a record number of international purchases helped push the two day sale gross to over $10.4 million – up a staggering 89 per cent on last year’s figures.

The average price of $36,148 soared 63 per cent on the corresponding sale twelve months earlier.

And the clearance rate of 73 per cent yesterday, climbed to finish at 79 per cent for the entire sale with an over 80 per cent clearance today alone.

Yesterday’s top price of $400,000 couldn’t be matched today with the highest price achieved today $320,000 for an Encosta de Lago colt from the Group One winning mare Ellicorsam.

“What an amazing two day’s selling,” Magic Millions Managing Director David Chester beamed. “The figures achieved have exceeded my expectations – although they didn’t surprise me completely.”

“Our team spent so a lot of time trying to ensure we had a large number of clients across all levels of the market.”

“And when you cast your eyes over the results you’ll see what a broad cross section of buyers we have from right around the world.”

“It’s something I’m quite proud of – Magic Millions being a true international thoroughbred sales company.”

“Andy Williams (World Wide Bloodstock) from South Africa and Willie Leung (Magus Equine Ltd) from Hong Kong were exceptionally active and they secured some lovely youngsters.”

“We also had a number of well known Australia trainers amongst the buyers as well – it was great to see so many of our loyal clients at the sale picking up their next racetrack star,” Chester added.

Tomorrow’s third session of the National Yearling Sale will be held from 11am (Qld time) tomorrow. That sale will be followed by the National Racehorse Sale.

“There will be exceptional value on offer tomorrow with a general session of yearlings followed by some top proven prospects up for grabs in the racehorse section.
