Russian Revolution Colt Tops Day One in Perth

Russian Revolution Colt Tops Day One in Perth

A member of the first crop of young sire Russian Revolution topped Day One of the 2021 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale when selling for $325,000 today.

Leading local trainer Simon Miller snared the day’s top seller after a fierce bidding battle at the Swan Valley complex.

The colt is the seventh living foal of the four time winning and top producing Blackfriars mare Magical Belle.

At stud she is already the dam of stakes winner Enchanted Dream, stakes placed Mystic Maid and the unbeaten Hong Kong galloper Winner Method.

“I didn’t think I would have to go that much,” Miller revealed post purchase.

“For starters he has an unbelievable temperament. Being so popular he’s virtually been out all day, every day and his mannerisms never deviated.”

“I’ve got a great group of loyal clients to race him and it’s very exciting to have purchased such a great colt.”

“It’s a great result for Darling View – they deserve to get a result because they have supported the local sale when they could have gone to a sale like the Gold Coast.”

“I’ve been able to be pretty bullish at this sale with the situation we are in and not having been able to attend many sales yet – but with Westspeed it is a great time to be buying these types of horses,” Miller added.

The top selling Russian Revolution colt was bred by the Atwell family’s Darling View Thoroughbreds and sold through the Western Breeders Alliance draft.

Darling View’s Stud Manager Brent Atwell was delighted with the $325,000 result and other results for the farm across the day.

“It’s an outstanding result for the team,” Atwell reported. “It was a huge thrill – I always thought he would be a star of the sale.”

“I’m super happy that he’s staying here and he’s going to a super stable like Simon.”

“He’s out of a super mare that’s produced some really nice horses and his sire is a new kid on the block that was a multiple Group One winner in the eastern states – so he’s bred to be a good horse.”

Colts by Capitalist (Lot 31 for Willow Dale Farm) and Choisir (Lot 161 for Western Breeders Alliance) shared the honour of the second top sellers when selling for $220,000 to Lindsey Smith and Ridgeport Holdings respectively.

Vern Brockman went to $210,000 to buy the Oratorio-Frizzled colt from Yarradale Stud, while fillies by Snippetson (Lot 41 from Scenic Lodge to Millfields Park) and Playing God (Lot 105 from Willaview Park to Michael Fagan) sold for $200,000.

Across Book One over $8.39 million was traded on 118 lots sold at an average price of $71,131 and clearance rate of over 79 per cent.

“Overall it was a great result for the state,” Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said. “It’s fantastic when you look over the top 10 priced lots see the good spread of eastern state sires and the local sires.”

“We are delighted for Brent and all at Darling View Thoroughbreds, they have been investing in their mares and service fees and now stallions in the west – to see them top the sale and to have a result like that is well deserved.”

“There’s a great spread of buyers with the locals stepping up to account for the interstate buyers who have been unable to attend.”

“Tomorrow will provide plenty of opportunities for buyers and these horses will be racing for the same prizemoney and bonuses – there’s a great selection of quality horses to be sold,” Bowditch added.

Day Two of the 2021 Perth Yearling Sale, comprising the Book Two offering, will commence at 11am (WA time).
