Scenic Shot Back At Home In Queensland

Veteran Western Australian galloper Scenic Shot continued his love affair with Queensland racing with a Listed victory in the Members Hcp (1600m) at Eagle Farm yesterday.

The Dan Morton trained eight year-old was at his gallant best lugging 61kg with regular hoop Shane Scriven aboard to snare the Members Handicap win.

The win capped of a week which Scriven would prefer to forget after incurring the wrath of Queensland stewards with a five month suspension handed out the veteran hoop.

“That was a bit of justice out there. I let him float around the corner and he kept coming in the straight like he always does, Scriven told AAP following the race.

“There were two tough old dogs out there doing our best – he’s a great horse.”

Scenic Shot’s previous Queensland haul included victories in the Doomben Cup Gr.1, Brisbane Cup Gr.2, P J O’Shea Stakes Gr.2 (twice) and Hollindale Stakes Gr.2.

Leon Morton, who deputised for son Dan at Eagle Farm, confirmed that Scenic Shot would again be aimed at both the Doomben and Brisbane Cups.

“It was a fair while between runs coming into this race, but I was confident he would run a good race when the track came up soft,” Morton told AAP.

“He loves it here in Brisbane. He has thrived since he arrived and he’ll only improve with this run under his belt.”

Scenic Shot is a son of former high class Western Australian stallion Scenic and is out of the Group two placed Dr Grace mare Sweepshot.

Scenic Shot was sold by Anita Vale Stud at the 2004 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale.

His earnings of over $2.6m now make his original purchase price of just $36,000 just a distant memory for connections who are headed by trainer Dan Morton and prominent owner Elio Gallante.
