Sequalo Yearling Popular On Gold Coast

Progeny by evergreen Queensland sire Sequalo topped a tough day one of the Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale today.

The Sequalo colt from Admiral’s Affair (Lot 157) topped the day’s proceedings when selling for $85,000, while his filly from Sale Eve (Lot 63) was next on the list with an $80,000 bid.

Leading Brisbane trainer Tony Gollan snapped up the day’s top seller, a half brother to his group performed galloper Whiskey Allround from the draft of Kilto Park Thoroughbreds, as agent for River Junction.

“I love the family,” Gollan said. “I’ve had good success with the sire as well as the female family so you could say he ticked both boxes in regards to pedigree.”

“He’s very similar to Whiskey Allround at the same stage of his life and we’ve had some good fun with him.”

“He was my must have horse of the sale,” Gollan summed up.

Another of Brisbane’s leading trainers, Liam Birchley, secured the second top seller of the day and the top priced filly, the Sequalo-Sale Eve filly from Oakwood Farm for $80,000.

Other top sellers on the day included Glenlogan Park’s Rothesay-Showhama colt for $70,000, Fig Tree Thoroughbreds’ Real Saga-Trickspiel colt for $70,000 and Lucas Bloodstock’s Husson-Virgin Snow colt for $65,000.

All up today over $2.5 million was traded on 121 lots sold at an average price of $21,107 and clearance rate of 64 per cent.

“It’s been a tough day at the office,” Cox said. “The figures across the board are disappointing.”

“Contary to what the clearance rate says, the vendors are prepared to meet the market.”

“However, the large buying bench is reluctant to bid which we find baffling given the incredible success of graduates from this sale.”

“We are confident that the clearance rate will improve on the back of private sales and the market tomorrow.”
