| An outstanding colt by Showtime is destined for Hong Kong after topping Monday’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Horses in Training Sale at $400,000. |
| Offered by Victoria’s Nolen Racing as Lot 127, the colt was presented after running the fastest breeze up leading in the sale – 10 seconds flat on the Gold Coast course proper last month. Apollo Ng was able to secure the colt through Bridle Bloodstock and his new connections are hoping for an exciting future on the racetrack. “I like the way that he strides along,” Ng said. “He reminds me of a very good horse trained by Mark Newnham, Crimson Flash.” “Crimson Flash is a very good sprinter and I reckon he’s going to perform at Group level.” “We’re going to poke along with him – we will send to Muskoka Farm and have him educated a little bit more, teach him barrier manners, jump outs and barrier trials.” Four other two-year-olds sold for a quarter of a million dollars or more including a pair from the Bond family’s Kenmore Lodge. Earlier in the sale their Stronger colt from Urban Jewel was purchased by Magic Millions’ China representative Amy Feng for $280,000, while late in the day the Admire Mars brother to Planet Red was sold to China’s Linsheng Zhang for $320,000. “It’s pretty amazing,” a delighted Kellie Bond said. “We loved him all the way through – the horse really pleased us all the way through the process.” “It proves that you can bring a really nice horse here and get rewarded. He was a colt that we absolutely loved and we are over the moon with the result.” Another $280,000 seller on the day was the Kingman-French Dispatch colt (Lot 92) who was offered as part of the Newington Farm Premium Consignment and purchased by Linsheng Zhang. In form trainer Ciaron Maher will have a lovely line of two-year-olds heading to his stable following the sale including the $250,000 Russian Revolution half brother to The Machine Gun. He was offered by Nolen Racing. Across the day over $6 million was traded on 83 two-year-olds at an average price of $74,090 and clearance rate of 72 per cent – the average, clearance and median ($50,000) all up on last year’s auction. “I thought there was a good vibe with a great cross section of buyers here today,” Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said. “With buyers from China, Hong Kong, Japan, Mongolia, Singapore, Malaysia, Korea and the Phillipines and good participation domestically, in a lot of cases horses sold very well.” “The clearance rate is 72 per cent at the moment, but we will continue to improve on that.” “All in all it was a good, solid average, a reasonable clearance rate and a healthy market for quality horses.” “I think vendors who supported the sale with the right horses were very well rewarded.” “We are committed to this date and format into the future,” Bowditch added.
