Spirit Booms Home In Magic Cup

Electrifying Toowoomba galloper Spirit of Boom made it back to back feature race wins yesterday when he stormed home to win the $400,000 R.M.Williams Magic Millions Cup (1400m) at the Gold Coast.

The classy four-year-old was sent out one of the leading chances after his impressive win in the Goldmarket Handicap at the same track on January 2.

In the run to the line in yesterday’s feature event Spirit of Boom was able to race away and beat Startsmeup by a half length.

Group One performer Latin News was another neck back in third place ahead of the fast finishing Steel Zip.

Winning trainer Tony Gollan has always held Spirit of Boom in high regard and he said the key to today’s big race win was the good track.

“He just hates rain affected tracks. We tinkered with his gear. It was a good track today and his last win was on a good track.”

“He’s got a great turn of foot. He’s always shown this sort of thing. He’s been plagued with wet tracks.”

“The other bloke Temple (of Boom) loves the wet, but this guy hates it.”

“We’re just rapt.”

Gollan said he wasn’t sure where Spirit of Boom would head next – options being Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and even Dubai.

“We’re not sure but he will definitely go to Melbourne in the spring.”

“We’re not sure how we will get there but the Queensland Winter looks a nice option but we’ll sit around and have a think about it.”

Spirit of Boom, a son of leading Queensland based sire Sequalo, is turning out a great money spinner for connections following his purchase for $90,000 at the 2009 Magic Millions QTIS Yearling Sale.

The Eureka Thoroughbreds graduate has now earned over $680,000 and that figure looks let to rise over the coming months.

The four-year-old is one of two stakes winners, from three to race, for the eight time winning Special Dane mare Temple Spirit.

A triple city winner and stakes placegetter, Temple Spirit is also the dam of the gun sprinter and $878,000 earner Temple of Boom.

Spirit of Boom’s sire Sequalo, a resident of Lyndhurst Stud Farm, is the sire of no fewer than 527 winners including stars Star Shiraz, Burdekin Blues, Sequential Charm, Show Biz Kid, Bold Glance, Wolfe Dreams and Secrets Untold.
