Star Colt Sizzles Again

Star Brisbane juvenile Sizzling is the horse to beat in next week’s Group One TJ Smith after another outstanding win, this time in today’s Group Two BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Eagle Farm.

Unleashing his customary big finish down the centre of the track, Sizzling was able to reel in the leaders and race clear for the easiest of wins.

Trainer Kelso Wood had some anxious moments early in the race when his star colt was caught on the inside of runners, but soon after finding space near the turn his concerns were quickly erased.

“I was a bit worried about the horse outside of him,” Wood said after the race.

“But once he went forward and we got on his back I wasn’t concerned at all.”

“I know how he can finish off and I knew he was the best horse in the race.”

“He’s such a relaxed horse. Nothing worries him. He’s a beautiful horse.”

The veteran Eagle Farm horseman said Sizzling would now take his place in the Group One TJ Smith at the same track over a furlong further next week.

“He’ll be there,” Wood stated. “And he’ll win by further.”

Sizzling, a son of Snitzel, was purchased for connections by leading bloostock agent John Foote for $260,000 at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Bred by John Muir’s Milburn Creek Thoroughbreds, he was presented at the Gold Coast in the draft of Evergreen Stud Farm.

As it stands his impressive record reads out at four wins and two second placings from just seven outings and earnings of over $470,000.

Prior to today he’d already won the Group Two Champagne Classic and listed Ken Russell Memorial Classic.

On the only occasion he missed a place he ran an eye catching fourth to Driefontein in the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

The win was the second BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes win for a youngster by Snitzel following Hot Snitzel’s win in the race 12 months ago.

His latest Sires’ winner is the first named foal for the stakes performed and two-year-old winning General Nediym mare Admirelle.

Admirelle, who earned her black type with a third placing in the Keith Mackay Handicap, is from the Flemington stakes winning Alzao mare Laudemio.

It is therefore the family of stakes winners including Loving Cup, Vintage Dance, Fullazz, Shy Hero, Pittance and Mounty.
