Star Mare Joins National Sale Catalogue

The Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale has received a stunning boost with one of the country’s top breeding prospects joining the supplementary catalogue.

Melito, a multiple Group One winning daughter of Redoute’s Choice, has joined the star studded catalogue and will go under the hammer during the latter stages of the first session of the sale on May 28.

One of the best performed and finest bred mares in the country, Melito raced with great success under the care of trainer Gerald Ryan and earned over $1.9 million.

She won twice at racing’s elite level – the TJ Smith Stakes (beating Hot Danish, Mic Mac and Wanted) and the Winter Stakes (beating Wealth Princess and Beaded). She won a further three races at Group Two level and was Group One placed in another eight races.

As well as being a star performer, Melito possesses an outstanding pedigree.

A daughter of champion sire Redoute’s Choice, she is one of three stakes performers produced by the stakes winning Marauding mare Cloister.

The-five-year-old, in her first season at stud, was covered early in the season by champion sire Encosta de Lago.

Meanwhile, stakes performed and regally related More Than Ready mare Wiener is another star lot to have joined the Broodmare Sale supplementary.

Placed in the Gimcrack Stakes at two, Wiener is a half sister to Group One winning sire Snitzel and his stakes winning siblings Viennese and Hinchinbrook.

Wiener’s only runner to date is a Melbourne winner and her past two yearlings at auction have sold for $900,000 and $475,000 respectively.

The mare was served by Redoute’s Choice last spring and the resultant foal will be a three quarter relation to Snitzel and Viennese.

Other highlight mares already catalogued for the auction including Sacred Choice, Scarlett Lady, Vintedge, Miss Keepsake, Karuta Queen, Ha Ha, Graceful Anna, Champagne Harmony, Bliss Street, Dowager Queen, Defiant Dame, Funtantes, Permissive and Dol.

Supplementary entries for the sale close at 12 noon (Qld time) tomorrow (Wednesday).
