Strategic Maneuver Filly Shines as Figures Rise in Adelaide

A filly by Strategic Maneuver was the clear top seller during a successful Book 2 auction at the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale at Morphettville on Wednesday.

It turned out an interstate battle for the prized filly, catalogued as lot 353, with a Victorian based client of Magic Millions locking horns with local horseman Phillip Stokes with the Victorian winning out with an $87,500 bid.

A member of the Bullarook Park Stud draft, the filly is the second live foal of the two-year-old winning Canny Lad mare Millisecond.

Millisecond, who won over 900 metres, is from a Danehill half sister to Jetball and Marwina and the dam of Into the Night.

Lot 363, the Host-Noble Glow colt, was the overall second top selling and the most expensive colt during Book Two, selling for $55,000 to Victorian based trainer John Price.

Presented by D M Bloodstock, as agent for Milawa Park, the chestnut colt is a half brother to four winners including the city winners You Will be Queen and Heyington Honey.

Noble Glow, the dam of the $55,000 colt, won five races including two in Melbourne and two in Adelaide before being retired to stud. She is a half sister to the stakes performer Jurlique.

The third top seller on the day was the Good Journey-Classic Cameo colt from Cornerstone Stud who was purchased by Victoria’s Ampulla Lodge for $46,000.

One of this week’s most active buyers Lloyd Kennewell was back buying again today and he will be hoping lightning strikes twice with his purchase of lot 370.

The lot in question is a colt by Bon Hoffa, was offered by Bowness Stud and was purchased for $6,500 – the same as this year’s Magic Millions 3YO Guineas winner Deiheros.

During the day over $1.35 million changed hands on 102 lots sold at an average price of $13,289. The sale gross and average price soared 34% and 17% respectively on last year’s figures.

“It was a good, solid day’s selling with some exceptional prices for some choice lots thanks to a strong and diverse buying bench,” Magic Millions Adelaide Consultant Adrian Hancock reported. “Bidding was intense on the lots that were well presented and well conformed.”

“It was pleasing for the complete sale to return the highest gross since 2007 and we look forward to this continuing to grow into the future. The combined sales have returned a clearance rate of over 80 per cent.”

“Vendors who supported the sale with quality lots were handsomely rewarded with well above expected results. We will work hard in getting more of these lots next year as we have proven we can attract the buyers and the good prices that come with them,” Hancock added.

The sale focus now switches to Queensland for next week’s Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale.

With the $10 million Magic Millions raceday in 2016 and the recent QTIS enhancements there’s never been a better time to buy a youngster at the Gold Coast March Yearling Sale.
