Fastnet Rock-Tivoli Dancer coltAlmost $1 million was traded during the dispersal sale of Stratheden Stud during today’s first session of the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale at the Gold Coast.

Described as a “great success” by the stud’s Judy Marheine, the Stratheden draft attracted plenty of spirited bidding and the lots are headed right around Australia and overseas.

The dispersal was highlighted by the $170,000 given by New Zealand’s Curraghmore Stud for a lovely Fastnet Rock colt (ex Tivoli Dancer).

Two other weanlings – a Lonhro filly (to Paul Willetts) and a More Than Ready filly (to Graeme Gathercole) – both sold for $150,000.

“We made a commercial decision to sell the horses as weanlings,” Judy said. “We thought the time was right.”

“We are very happy with the results achieved and it looks like we had a great spread of buyers,” she added.

“Before the sale we sat down and looked at what we might achieve with a good sale – and we did that for sure.”

All 19 weanlings offered by Stratheden were sold – at an average price of over $50,000.

The Stratheden Stud dispersal will continue at next week’s Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

The first session of the National Weanling Sale continues.
