Taussie Bred Wins Malaysian Group One

Former classy Singapore galloper Handsome Nic scored the biggest win of his career at his third run in Malaysia when he romped home in yesterday’s Group One Sultan Gold Vase (1100m) at Ipoh.

The six-year-old son of Show a Heart didn’t give his rivals a look in and he led home a Magic Millions one-two in the feature sprint.

Handsome Nic, sold by Magic Millions as a weanling, yearling and in-training two-year-old, was formerly known in Singapore as Hansome Jazz.

The gelding raced in Singapore on 23 occasions for six wins and six placings prior to arriving in Malaysia where he’s made an immediate impact.

Handsome Nic was purchased from the draft of Quona Cooke’s Carinya Park the 2006 Magic Millions National Horses in Training Sale by former trainer Don Baertschiger for $39,000.

He was previously sold by Toreby Park at the 2006 Perth Yearling Sale after “debuting” at the 2005 National Weanling Sale for the Moran family’s Noble Park operation who bred the galloper.

“It was a really dominant win,” Magic Millions International Director David Chester reported from Ipoh. “He won by over three lengths.”

“It was a great result with the winner being sold three times by Magic Millions and the runner-up Triple Happy is a son of Bletchley Park who is a Perth Yearling Sale graduate.”

“Handsome Nic is now trained by KP Hoy – who has been a regular at our sales, particularly in Perth and at the Gold Coast.”

A half brother to Handsome Nic, by Glenlogan Park’s exciting young Flying Spur stallion Jet Spur, is being prepared for January’s 2011 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

The colt, bred by the Twine family, is being prepared by well regarded Queensland horsewoman Robyn Wise.

“He’s a lovely colt, a real athlete,” Wise said. “He’s a real Magic Millions style running type.”

“I’ve prepared three yearlings out of the mare and this colt is by far the best of them,” Wise added.
