Tumultuous Goes Back to Back in Magic Trophy

Tumultuous became the eighth horse in Magic Millions history to win two races on at January’s lucrative Gold Coast meeting when he scored back-to-back wins in the $1 million Sky Racing Magic Millions Trophy (2200m) on Saturday.

From the inside gate, the Chris Waller-trained stayer settled midfield on the rails and didn’t go around a rival as jockey Robbie Fradd steered a path to victory along the inside fence.

The five-year-old claimed the lead inside the final 100m and raced away to put a half-a-length on game on-pacer Goodfella, with another half-length to fast-finishing stablemate Black On Gold in third.

A $350,000 purchase at the 2015 Magic Millions God Coast Yearling Sale, the son of Fastnet Rock has now won more than $2 million in prizemoney and Waller said he epitomised what the Magic Millions concept was about.

“Not just is it a big payday for owners, connections and breeders but it’s a great party for the locals and people coming from all across Australia and even around the world,” Waller said.

“To win a race, it lets people know that you’re out there and doing your job.”

Waller has been extremely active during the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale with more than 15 purchases thus far, including a trio of I Am Invincible colts – Lot 204, Lot 446 and Lot 795 – for a combined $2.9 million.

Fradd, who was aboard Tumultuous in 2018, said he was delighted to win another Magic Millions race.

“He was primed for today, he was ready for today,” Fradd said.

“We had a beautiful run up the fence, we never left it and the gap was there so we had to take it.”
